Appearances can be deceptive

It's hard to take a self-photo without looking like a nutter!

When people say to me, “You don’t look like a vicar”, two things happen: I take it as a compliment. I point out that I do because I am one and this is what I look like – QED. So, do I look like a vicar?

Catch-up

Wow! A long time without posting.  I’m going to claim it’s all down to moving house if that’s okay?  It’s not?  Well tough, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. So what has happened since I re-skinned my djembe? Well, we had our final service at Bursledon and spent a lot of time clearing …

Advanced science?

In The Daemons, The Doctor states that any sufficiently advanced science will appear as magic to the primitive observer (quoting Arthur C. Clarke).  Back in 2005, I was involved in a couple of “magic” (illusionism) programmes for Channel 4 – see below for links to posts about the shoot and my response to their broadcasts. …

So, what do you do?

This afternoon, I was on the phone with someone from The Independent for a piece they’re preparing about the forthcoming referendum on the Alternative Vote system. As is so often the case, thanks in part to the impenetrable language the Church of England uses and in part to my domain, jamesthevicar.com being slightly misleading, there …

Media Darling

I had a phone call this morning from BBC Radio 5Live asking if I was interested in contributing to a discussion on the transfers that went through yesterday – particularly Torres to Chelsea and Carroll to Liverpool.  Here’s a link to the discussion chaired by Victoria Derbyshire (you’ll need to jump to 1:36:46 in the …

Not Bumpy #ffffff

That’s Flat White incidentally. Life’s too short for bad coffee (beer, wine, conversation, etc, etc… ).  I’ve been working for some time on learning to produce the perfect flat white coffee.  The staff at my local Starbucks have been giving me a degree of training in how to apply the steamed-stretched milk to the espresso …

Wordle of my retrospective of the last decade

Having posted my last entry, I created a Wordle of it:

Another decade over, a new one just begun

So, having reflected a couple of days ago on my resolutions for 2011, I’m going to look back over the last 10 years, the decade often known as the “naughties”. Year-by-year, what happened in Ogleyland?

Another year over, a new one just begun

And so, as we hurtle into “The Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Eleven” (2011), it’s about time I set myself up to fail by having a list of those pesky resolutions for me to beat myself up for not achieving. So, here goes: First and obviously given I’m half-way through the final year …

Happy Zero Day

This morning, with it being half-term and so several of the team being on holiday, staff meeting was cancelled. It turns out that this was a far more productive use of my day as I set about attending to my parish and personal email inboxes that were both hovering around the 100 email mark. No …
