About Me

Given that you’re here, and apparently reading this, I assume you want to know something about me. Well, I’m in my 30s and I currently live near Southampton on the south coast of  England. I’ve been married to Amanda since March 1998, we have a son, Callum, who was born in January 2007 and a daughter, Deborah, who was born in December 2010.

I’m passionate about the church as a radical community, shaping the world around it to reflect God’s Kingdom.  I believe that Jesus’ resurrection is the single most important event to have happened in history and that it shapes the whole of our lives.  I believe that God is in the business of restoring his creation and the resurrection is the means by which this is achieved.  I believe that, since our future hope in God is a bodily resurrected existence, that the physical world matters and we are required to protect and preserve it.  I believe that, since God demonstrates his passion for justice through raising the helpless and powerless one who was executed by the greatest power in the known world back to life, that we are required to act on behalf of the oppressed, the outcasts, the poor, the disenfranchised, those on the edge, the fringe, the helpless and powerless.  In short, I am a follower of Jesus of Nazareth.

On 30 August 2011, I will be installed as Vicar of St Francis Church, Luton and am very excited to see what God is going to be doing during our time there.  I recently finished serving as curate at an Anglican church and before that I was training at St John’s College, Nottingham.  Prior to starting my training, we lived in Watford, which is in  Hertfordshire, just north-west of London. I hold a BA (Hons) from the University of Nottingham in Ministry and am currently working toward an MA in Theology of Mission and Ministry.

I used to be a UNIX Systems Administrator before I trained for ordained ministry.  I still like to “keep my oar in” which is somewhat inevitable as I was one of those IT people who had turned their hobby into their job.  I am a committed Linux user, using openSUSE.  SuSE Linux UK (as it was known at the time) was one of the companies for whom I worked.

I grew up on Merseyside and am a passionate Liverpool fan.  I’m also a musician, playing guitar, percussion and (somewhat lapsed) ‘cello.  I’m a real ale and coffee buff and I live with a dependency on caffeine with which I am profoundly comfortable! Smile  I’m a fan of Sci-Fi and other “cult” TV and in my spare time (what little I have – mainly my weekly day off), enjoy playing games on our Wii or the occasional game of cards (hint: if I check-raise you, I probably have you beat).
