Well, polls are suggesting that Nick Clegg won the first Leaders’ Debate. We’ll hear about the pollsters overnight and in the morning no doubt but here’s an interesting score:
My friend, Paul Johnston is a “floating voter” – the very sort of person these debates are really for and he graded each leader from -3 to +3 for each question and then totted up the totals at the end. Here is Paul’s result:
- Brown -11 (negative eleven)
- Cameron 8 (positive eight)
- Clegg 9 (positive nine)
In summary, Paul says Brown was awful, Cameron surprising and Clegg very solid.

I didn’t watch — we don’t have a TV — but Mr Nick seems to be the winner. Still my bet of an outsider and almost new kid on the block would be: a hung parliament. And that could actually be the first step towards real change. And why not join the euro? I think over the last two years it gained 25% more value compared to the pound.

It was on BBC Radio 5Live too – think they all will be.
And I’m all in favour of joining the Euro too.
